Khanate (marked "khan-eight") formed in the year 2000 with the intention of setting new standards for infliction and ugliness in the doom alloy writing style. Their songs are marked by dissonant, heavily down-tuned guitar/bass figures, extremely slow tempos, swarms of high-pitched feedback, and distressingly shrieked vocals, devising for a genuinely tortured and thought-provoking listening know -- redact another agency, their euphony is non for everybody. The quartet is headed up by guitarist Stephen O'Malley (Electrocution Witch, Thorr's Hammer, Sunn O)))) and bassist James Plotkin (Old, Atomsmasher, etc.), deuce musicians whose reputations in the resistance metal/experimental arenas precede them and can throw listeners an idea of what to carry from the band. Rounding kO'd the lineup are vocalizer Alan Dubin (also erstwhile of OLD) and drummer Tim Wyskida. Khanate released their self-titled debut in the fall of 2001 on Southern Lord Records.
